Are you one of those who love to take a nap after lunch? According to research published by PubLMed, taking a nap is fine, especially if you time your rest time.

During the study, conducted by researchers at Flinders University in Australia, scientists evaluated 24 young individuals who slept well at night and did not usually take naps during the day.

The participants dozed off for periods of 5, 10, 20 and 30 minutes, being evaluated for 3 hours after naps and comparing their performance to a control group that did not sleep during the day.

Timed Nap

The results showed that napping of just 5 minutes offers few benefits compared to not taking a nap at all. However, 10-minute naps produce immediate results, increasing cognitive performance, vigor, decreasing tiredness, etc., and maintaining such benefits for 155 minutes after awakening.

20- and 30-minute naps also offer some benefits, although less immediate and with shorter durations. In addition, prolonging the sonequinha can actually make us more lethargic.

According to the researchers, the exact amount of sleep for each one may vary slightly, and you just need to pay attention to how you feel after waking up to get an idea of what is right for you. However, when taking a nap, be sure to time yourself, and have a good rest.
