3 working days a week is ideal for those over 40

The transition between middle age and old age is still a taboo in society, and the fact that prejudice against older people in the labor market can be a big problem. Working for those over 40 can be both stimulating and beneficial as well as harmful.

One of the most discussed points of all this is the quality of life. The Institute of Applied Economics and Social Research, a body linked to the University of Melbourne, Australia, conducted a survey in which 3, 000 men and 3, 500 women over 40 were studied.

Tests such as reading aloud, back-to-back number lists, and time-bound letter-numbering were performed to analyze the reasoning of the volunteers. The survey found that those who work between 25 and 30 hours per week had the best results. The unemployed fell behind; however, they performed better than those who work long hours, from 40 to 60 hours per week. Thus, the study concluded that 3 days a week is ideal for keeping the brain of the forties active and without stress or work fatigue, valuing a good quality of life.
