1 - Disaster

The origin of this word is quite curious and has to do with superstition and astrology. In ancient times, in Italy, the belief was that people born under the influence of certain stars were unlucky, and from that belief came the word " disaster ."

2 - Robot

Machines designed to work nonstop, tirelessly and without complaining are called robots. The word originated in the Czech Republic and means "slave".

3 - Avocado

The term "avocado" derives from "ahuacatl, " which in Nahuatl-Aztec means nothing less than "testicles."

4 - Whiskey

If you've ever had the joy of visiting Ireland or Scotland, you may have noticed that whiskey is drunk there like water. The origin of the word comes from the Gaelic “uisce”, which means what? That's right: water.

5 - Spirit

In Latin, "spiritus" can mean "breath", "breathing" or "soul". Regardless, the word derives from "spirare, " which means "to breathe."
