7 historical personalities who supposedly made pact with the Devil

The myth that some famous personalities have achieved great prominence and recognition among the public and made deals with the Devil is not new. Some people have long accused artists, scientists, writers or musicians of having relationships with Satan and achieving early or suspicious success. The macabre killers are also on these lists, precisely because of their sinister actions.

Of course, these speculations are not statements that can be taken for granted, but they are rumors that try to explain the strange aura surrounding these personalities. Urban legends or not, here are seven of these acquaintances who supposedly have mysterious satanic relationships:

1 - Robert Johnson

He is known to be one of the musicians who reportedly made a pact with the Devil. It's hard to explain where Johnson's myth begins, but the most common stories are that he met the Devil at the intersection of roads 61 and 49 in the state of Mississippi and sold his soul to being evil.

In return, he asked to be the best blues artist of all time - which became partially true, as Robert became a great blues icon. Myths increase when reports say that prior to such a meeting, Johnson had no particular gift, but after the Devil's reckoning his songs fascinated millions.

2 - Charles Manson

Charles Manson is unfortunately one of the most famous criminals of the twentieth century. Manson's life was atypical from the start: arrested as a teenager for countless offenses, only released after his 33rd birthday. In the 1960s, he founded a mysterious, legendary group called the "Manson Family" - which was blamed for many crimes, including the cruel murder of actress Sharon Tate (eight months pregnant). Some people say that satanic cults were held among members of the "Manson Family, " as the founder's speeches have always had a religious bias.

Messages written on the walls of crime scene with the blood of victims also contributed to such speculation. However, large amounts of drugs have always been found with the criminal; He was also considered mentally unstable. Today, he is serving a life sentence in the United States. Manson's court officials called him "the most evil and satanic man who ever walked the face of the earth."

3 - Giuseppe Tartini

Tartini is a famous Italian musician who openly claimed to have encountered the Devil in dreams. It may not have been a pact, but the musician himself said it was a supernatural collaboration. When Tartini was 21, he dreamed that the Devil appeared in his dreams and played a dazzling song on a violin.

Upon waking, Tartini tried to reproduce the chords of such a song, but made only inferior versions - according to himself. After some time, he was able to recreate part of the song, originating one of his best known works: "The Devil's Trilo". After composing this sonata, Tartini became very famous and became a great musician.

4 - Urbain Grandier

The story of this French priest's demonic relations is quite curious. Grandier was a charismatic Catholic priest who arrived at the Londun Convent in 1615. However, Urbain had some characteristics that were not desired by people of his position, such as a strong desire for women.

He ignored his vows of celibacy and stayed with many women from his own convent. He was later accused of witchcraft for involving the nuns and forcing them to have sex with him. The real ultimatum against Urbain Grandier came when a document was found in his (probably forged) quarters, in which he wrote in Latin that he made a pact with the Devil, surrendering his soul to the lord of hell to win all the women he wanted. . Urbain died burned at the stake.

5 - Charles Baudelaire

This forerunner of symbolism and the modern style of poetry was considered Satanic and Devil worshiper. The main reason was such artistic recognition that he longed for - but almost never arrived. However, because he has some poems that speak of Satan (and some admiration for him), Baudelaire was regarded as a friend of the evil one.

These notions increased with the author's constant statements of atheism, which also broke some moral codes and concepts established by the standards of the time. However, his verses that glorify the Devil should not be taken as literal but symbolic - as the devil has become a representation of rebellion and moral revolution for the writer.

6 - Gilles de Rais

Gilles de Rais was one of Joan of Arc's top lieutenants and probably one of the world's first serial killers. Known to be extremely cruel and violent, Rais was fierce from a young age - a fact that spurred him on to military service. After Joan of Arc died, the man became more eccentric and unstable, returning to his original estates in the city of Nantes; where he began to practice his barbarities.

There he kidnapped, abused, tortured and murdered hundreds of children and young people, especially boys. Because he was rich, his orders were never denied, as he had numerous servants. He surrounded himself with "witches", orchestrating evil rituals in their halls at dawn. They regarded him as a worshiper of the Devil for these reasons, as he became increasingly disturbed and passionate about rituals, taking more painful actions with his victims. Finally, he was denounced and killed burned at the stake in 1440.

7 - Niccolò Paganini

Paganini is one of the most famous violinists of all time, commonly called the "Diabolic Violist". He looked rather cadaverous because he was too thin, and had exaggeratedly long fingers. His odd appearance gave rise to rumors that the violinist made a pact with the Devil to play the violin so well - as if it were a bargaining chip for the peculiar physique.

However, he is quite likely to suffer from Marfan Syndrome, whose typical symptoms are longer, skeletal fingers. Perhaps the pact myth persisted because he always traveled in black horse-drawn carriages. The fact is that the legends around him became so strong that some priests refused to bury him.
