The amazing story of the youngest boy in the world walking to the South Pole

Do you have a dream but find it very difficult to realize it? Then it's time to learn the story of a 16-year-old teenager who is about to make a very intimidating title official: the youngest person in the world to reach the South Pole trekking for more than 1, 100 km. We are talking about Lewis Clarke, a very, very brave student.

To achieve his goal, Clarke spent 46 days walking at temperatures of -40 ° C, covering an average of 28 km per day for eight hours. The boy was helped by an experienced South Pole guide, Carl Alvey, but the help did not include loading Clarke's items, which he made a point of taking alone.

In addition to the extreme cold and constant gusts, the two faced heavy snowfall in these 46 days. Clarke's journey began on December 2, and since then he has been in contact with the support of the British Royal Family who, through a charity, funded the young student's saga.

The boy planned the trip for three years and, since deciding to take the long walk, has started heavy physical training, including a two-week course in Norway. During his expedition, he stated: “I loved snow, hated warm places and hot climates, and wore shorts during the winter. Now I'm not so sure. ”

He added by saying that he studied everything about the poles and knew it would be difficult, but in fact, it is more difficult than he imagined. Among the problems he faces, Clarke said he has blisters all over his body, his nose often freezes and he has even broken a ski that was considered unbreakable.

In the last 100 years, only 300 people have done the same as Clarke. The boy's father, Steven Clarke, said he was proud of his son, but said in a statement published in the Daily Mail that he could not wait for Lewis to return home.

Lewis is now the youngest person to ride the South Pole along the coastal trail, ahead of previous winner Sarah Landry, 18. In addition, he is the youngest to go skiing during the partial journey to the Polo and the youngest to ski during the short journey. That is: there are three records. Congratulations, Lewis!
