According to the publication, it is estimated that one in 50 people suffer from headaches due to misuse of medicines and, as experts have explained, taking medicines too often - for example, for 15 days a month - can contribute to increase the problems.

When medicine can be worse than cure

The headache caused by drug abuse is a well-known fact and for this reason doctors insist that a specialist be consulted so that each case can be diagnosed and treated as properly as possible, stressing that we should never self-medicate.

Therefore, the recommendation is that the group of drugs made up of aspirin, acetaminophen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories - such as ibuprofen, for example - should not be given for 15 days or more in a single month, while stronger medicines, like opioids and analgesic combinations, they should not be taken for more than 10 days in a month, as they may cause constant headaches to patients.
