Chinese artist creates brick stone from polluted Beijing air

Unsurprisingly, the alarming pollution situation in China. Here at Mega Curioso, we already present a video that portrays the conditions of the country and also comparative images of a clean and polluted day in Beijing.

Knowing the lamentable scenario presented by his country, the artist known as “Brother Nut” had a rather unusual idea to show people how polluted the Chinese air is. With an industrial vacuum cleaner, for 100 days he walked the streets of the Chinese capital sucking the air. In the end, he was able to absorb 100 grams of a mixture of dust and pollution, equivalent to the portion inhaled by 62 people in 4 days.

After collection, he headed for a factory in Tangshan City carrying the collected mass of dirt. There, this content was mixed with clay and turned into a brick with a few kilograms. About the experiment, Nut wrote that cities became chemical enclosures with so much pollution from human exploitation. “The more we look for and extract resources, the more dust we produce. When the planet's resources are depleted, we ourselves will eventually become dust, unaided, and living in nothing, ”he said.

The artist hopes that the brick piece and his experience will inspire people to think about how they use natural resources. To this end, continuing the project, Nut intends to place the object on a Beijing construction site. According to him, as much as the artifact is not different from the usual, people should consider it a symbol of pollution.

Repercussion

In a social network, Brother Nut's experience was questioned. A netizen stated that to make a piece of brick like this, much more matter is needed than the one collected by the artist. In response, Nut recalled his goal and said he does not intend to conduct scientific research. "I want to take a breath on the problem of air pollution so that people stop ignoring it and take action to avoid it, " he explained.

And apparently the goal is being reached at least with some people on social networks, as netizens were impressed by what they saw. On Twitter, one user asked, "Does this mean my lung is filling with bricks?" Another called on people who complain about pollution to think about their own actions and to check if they also do not contribute to the chaotic situation. "To combat this (pollution), not only a few laws and regulations are needed, but also the awareness of all the people of the country, " he added.
