Ashley Revell: the guy who sold everything to place a bet in Las Vegas

What would you say about a person who decides to collect all their possessions, sell each item and bet absolutely everything on a single roulette game? That this guy is irresponsible? That he should not hit the balls well? So get ready to learn the story of Ashley Revell, a Briton who gathered everything he had and traveled to Las Vegas to try his luck at a casino.

According to Sarah Stone of the Today I Found Out portal, it all started in 2004 and, as with many crazy self-respecting ideas, Ashley's “project” was born on a bar table. The Briton was 32 at the time and was drinking with friends in a pub when one of them came up with the history of the bet. And of course everyone - kind of drunk - thought it would be amazing to be able to play everything at roulette.

However, even though the conversation was nothing more than one of those typical bar conversations, Ashley said she couldn't get the idea out of her mind. And thinking it would really be a phenomenal experience, he decided to put the plan into action. Evidently, the (now sober) friends tried to convince the boy that the gamble was crazy - and his parents don't even talk about it! - but the Briton was completely determined.

Putting the plan into action

After convincing his parents and friends to support him in his endeavor, Ashley began selling everything he owned. So there went his BMW, his Rolex watch, golf clubs, clothes, and personal effects - even those that had sentimental value to him - and the boy managed to accumulate the amount of what today would be the equivalent of £ 105, 400 (or close to $ 575K) for your bet.

In the midst of it all, a TV channel learned the story and created a sitcom called " Double or Nothing " - or "Double or Nothing" - to follow Ashley! And when the boy finally boarded for Las Vegas, his parents, some friends, and a film crew went with him. Besides, besides money and company, Ashley went on his journey wearing a rented tuxedo, which means that technically he didn't own even the clothes he was wearing.

The young man intended to make his bet at the Hard Rock Hotel, but negotiations went downhill and he had to look for another casino. Luckily, the Plaza Hotel staff saw an opportunity to gain publicity with the situation and agreed to organize the event. However, moments before Ashley made the bet, the casino board announced that it was not advising anyone, not even the British, to do this sort of craziness.

Double or nothing

Ashley said he couldn't decide which color to bet on and waited for some kind of sign to guide him in making his choice. So when the roulette wheel started spinning, the first thing that came to mind was the "red" - and he bet everything, every penny he had, in that color.

And to everyone's amazement - while Ashley waited, friends watched, parents cheered, the TV crew filmed and the audience in England vibrated - after the roulette wheel spun and the ball bounced and bounced, it's not that she fell in the red house ?!

Ashley managed to double all the money she had collected and, in a single move, won the equivalent of $ 1.2 million. In addition, unlike many well-off gamblers, the Briton decided not to be tempted and declined the offer to make a new bet. He simply exchanged all the chips he won and left.

Ashley on bet day

After returning to England with twice the money he had taken to Las Vegas, Ashley admitted that what he had done had been utter madness. After all, if he had lost the bet, he would have absolutely nothing, not even to wear.

On the other hand, Ashley said she never doubted the result. He was so convinced that it would all work out that he had a feeling he had just gone to the casino to collect his small fortune. And the lucky story didn't end in Las Vegas!

Ashley decided to spend a small portion of the money on a motorcycle trip across Europe. For during the trip he met a girl in the Netherlands - and Ashley not only took her to England, but also married and had two children with her. So in addition to doubling all the money he had, the gamble also helped him find the woman of his life.
