Everyone knows that in order to prevent loss of muscle tissue and decrease in bone density, orbiting astronauts should exercise for at least two hours a day. However, no one ever imagined that someday there would be someone willing to complete triathlons in space, much less that would be possible due to the lack of gravity.

However, according to a report published by SPACE.com, NASA astronaut Sunita Williams completed the first triathlon in space, and in less than an hour! The space triathlete ran, pedaled and swam - that's right, swam ! - a total distance equivalent to just over 36 kilometers and in the absence of gravity.

Running and cycling were easier as the International Space Station has a treadmill and exercise bike, both specially adapted to keep astronauts from flying. For the swim test, Sunita used a device designed to simulate the resistance and weight conditions present in the water.

The race coincided with a competition that took place here on Earth, Florida, and the space triathlete was also the first person to participate in the Boston Marathon since space, completing the course in four hours and 23 minutes in 2007.
