Warning, astronomy fan: September has total eclipse of Bloody Supermoon

The month of September is one of the most interesting for Astronomy fans here in Brazil. Two events will be visible in our country and one of them should not be repeated anytime soon. Then take your calendar and write it down:

Neptune in opposition

On the first day of the month, the planet Neptune will oppose the Sun from Earth. It will be one of the best days of the year to spot the star and photograph him with special equipment. If you can get a good record of the planet, send it to us!

Bloody Supermoon Total Eclipse

The second and largest Supermoon of the year will take place on September 28th, and we here from Brazil will be able to follow the cabin event. Besides being the maximum point of approach of the Earth and its natural satellite, which makes the moon appear to be bigger, this day we will also have the only eclipse of the year visible in Brazil.

Steps of a complete lunar eclipse generating the Blood Moon

And to improve: it will be a total lunar eclipse! Another one of these only in 2019, so you can't lose. What's more, this eclipse will produce the Blood Moon (or Blood Moon, as you prefer to call it), which is when the Earth's shadow begins to reach the satellite leaving it a reddish color. This should start around 10 pm and about an hour later the moon will be completely gone. The sky will only return to “normal” around 1:30 am.

And if you happen to live somewhere with many buildings or if the clouds cloud your vision, don't worry. The Science and Astronomy project, founded by student Cristian Westphal, will broadcast the phenomenon live on YouTube with a 10-inch MEADE telescope. You can watch the eclipse streaming by clicking this link. And be sure to follow the project on Facebook to learn more about upcoming astronomical events.
