Activist climbs plane and sticks to him to protest climate

The activist group Extinction Rebellion (XR), founded almost a year ago, is organizing a wave of protests against the London climate crisis that began on October 7 and continues to upset the government. They called it "autumn uprising": the fall of the fall.

London police have even banned demonstrations in the city, an extreme measure yet unable to stop protesters, who continue to perform acts of peaceful civil disobedience: clinging to buildings, blocking passageways, occupying Trafalgar Square, etc.

Rebellion for the weather

So far there have been approximately 1, 500 arrests in London related to protests against the climate crisis. Last week focused protests were held at London airports, where 50 people were arrested.

One of these climate protests was from James Brown, a former Paralympic athlete and member of Extinction Rebellion.

Brown climbed a British Airways plane from London to Amsterdam and used glue to attach to the top of the aircraft. From above, the activist made a video to publicize his cause, which was later edited with additional footage by the group and posted on YouTube.

"All of this is against the climate and ecological crisis, we are protesting the lack of government action, " Brown said. The flight was almost canceled, but police were able to stop the protester in time for the plane to take off.

Other protests were happening at the same time. Climate protesters sat outside the airport, making it difficult to reach. Another activist delayed a takeoff flight to Dublin, rising from his seat and giving a speech on the weather. Both Brown and the man on the flight to Dublin, as well as many of the "sitting", were arrested.

Why the airport?

A single flight from London to New York generates nearly 1, 000 pounds of carbon dioxide per passenger. Like many other activities involving fossil fuel combustion, aviation is largely responsible for the rapid emission of gases such as carbon dioxide.

In a few months, aircraft emissions are expected to increase by 5% from last year and more than 300% from 1990. In the video, Brown exemplifies the inconsistency: why the United Kingdom sanctions airport expansion while announcing an emergency climatic?
