Batman would die if he tried to fly, study finds

Physics students at the University of Leicester in England have concluded that Batman would not be able to survive the aerial maneuvers he makes in the movie "Batman Begins." Because of its high speed, its impact on the ground would be equivalent to that of one car crashing into another at 80 kilometers per hour.

In addition, the Batman cape's wingspan - about 4.7 meters - is only half that of a glider. If Batman jumped from a building 150 meters high, he could slide approximately 350 meters, but the biggest problem lies in the fact that his speed increases during descent.

Although the study is valid as a way for students to exercise calculations, it is worth remembering that Batman movies are not intended to be extremely perfect from a physical standpoint. After all, if we believe in a bat-clad man fighting crime out there, why not believe that his flights might be possible?
