Bizarre: Indian baby seems to suffer from spontaneous human combustion

According to the International Business Times, an Indian baby just a few months old is reportedly suffering from a super rare condition known as spontaneous human combustion. According to the publication, the boy - named Rahul - has been found in flames four times, the first of them just nine days after birth.

Rahul was admitted to a hospital to receive treatment for his severe burns, and the medical team underwent the baby on a battery of tests to try to identify the cause of the problem. Spontaneous human combustion is a very rare medical phenomenon of which only 200 cases have been reported in the last 300 years, supposedly caused by the release of flammable substances by the body.

As the doctors responsible for Rahul's case explained, the human body can spontaneously combust due to the body's emission of combustible gases, and family members must be vigilant to ensure that the boy does not burn again. However, many doctors and researchers roundly dismiss spontaneous combustion as an explanation.

It will be?

According to Discovery News, scientists say there is no plausible physiological or medical mechanism by which a human being can generate enough heat to ignite alone. In addition, there is no film or evidence of the phenomenon happening, and most of the cases investigated revealed the presence of flammable materials and sources of ignition close to the victims.

The first suspicions - medical and police - evidently fell on Rahul's parents, who offered spontaneous human combustion as an explanation for the burns. The boy's case is still under investigation and soon the authorities hope to clarify whether the events are really caused by the rare medical phenomenon or unfortunately the episode is no longer a case of neglect and abuse.
