According to the San Clemente Patch website, focused on local news from this region of California, a 43-year-old woman was hospitalized with third-degree burns after some rocks she carried in her pocket spontaneously combusted.

According to the publication, the woman kept a few pebbles that had been collected by her children in her shorts pocket while spending the day at San Onofre Beach, a popular spot for surfers in the area.

Spontaneous combustion

The incident occurred after the family returned home, and although the victim tried to put out the fire by rolling on the floor, the rocks remained lit, even causing minor burns on her husband's hands as he tried to put out the fire.

Local authorities are still examining the rocks, but two appear to contain phosphorus in its composition, a highly flammable substance. In addition, near the region where the stones were found, in addition to a nuclear power plant, there is also a navy military base, which still functions as a site for rocket and firearm testing.
