Blanche Monnier: Locked in the attic by her own mother for 25 years

Blanche Monnier, the heiress of an exponent French family, mysteriously disappeared in the prime of life. One day no one saw or heard of her again - until 25 years later, when she was found trapped in the attic of her home, completely malnourished and in a deplorable situation of rot, food scraps, feces and urine.

Listening to stories like those in the movie "Jack's Room" or the "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" series, one inevitably wonders what kind of monster would have the courage to do this to someone else. But what about when the culprit is the individual's own mother? That's what happened to the girl.

While her parents wanted her to marry a rich young man, Blanche fell in love with an older, much poorer lawyer than she did.

When this happened, Blanche's mother threatened to lock her in if she didn't break up. When she refused, the matriarch was not cheap and tied her daughter to a bed in the attic, completely naked, with the windows and curtains closed, keeping her in the dark.

Time passed, the girl grew older and continued to reject the idea of abandoning the lawyer - even after he died without her knowing it.

In the house also lived a brother of the girl and worked several employees; all were afraid to report their captivity. The situation has reached an unsustainable point; but only more than 2 decades later did anyone have the courage to do anything about it.

One day the Attorney General of Paris received an anonymous note that there was something wrong with the Monnier housing, and decided to send a team to investigate - despite being a well-placed family known to work in institutions of charity.

It was because of this that the police discovered the woman. The scene they found as they slammed the locked door on the second floor of the residence was worthy of a horror movie. Dirt of all types; the refectory bed also served as a bathroom - and she had lived like this for twenty-five years. At the time, it weighed less than 25 kg. The stench was so large that the officers couldn't bear to stay in the room for more than a few minutes.

Blanche was lucid, but she had psychological problems that lasted the rest of her life - which she ended up in a psychiatric institution until she died at age 64. Her mother and brother were arrested the same day she was found, but she died only 2 weeks later in prison. The boy remained in detention and was convicted, but was later released for some time for lack of legal bases to keep him in jail.
