BOSS Great Wall: Scientists Discover the Largest Structure in the Universe

A team of astronomers from the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics has just discovered what is being viewed as the largest structure in the universe. We're talking about BOSS Great Wall, an 830 galaxy cluster that is about 1 billion light years across. The cluster has a mass 10, 000 times larger than that of the Milky Way. It's so big it's hard to imagine.

The structure is connected by gases and, thanks to gravity, its components agitate and move together through the vacuum of space. The BOSS (acronym for Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, named after the method used to find the structure) is located about 4.5 to 6.5 billion light years away from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey. Earth.

While some scientists disagree that the discovery is really a unique structure (since the “wall” components have gaps that are connected by clouds of gas and cosmic dust), it is impossible not to be impressed when trying to calculate the size of this cluster. And quite likely, as we invent new technologies to look further and further into space, we will find even larger structures floating around.
