Brazilians debut with victory at Priests World Cup at Vatican

In 2007, during the pontificate of Benedict XVI, the Pontifical World Championship was created - officially called the Clericus Cup. The competition is supported by the Vatican and is in its 11th edition! And Brazil debuted with victory on Sunday (12): the team Collegio Pio Brasiliano, formed by Brazilian priests studying in Rome, defeated by 2 to 1 the Chape Cusmano Belgian team of Belgium.

Although the Brazilian goals came from the feet of priests Anevair and Cássio, it was Neimar that caught the most attention of the local press - precisely because it was namesake of Neymar. The next challenge for the Brazilian team is against the “owners of the house”, the Anselmian Vatican, to be held next Sunday (19).

Fair play is one of the biggest differences from a traditional game - it's not worth cursing the judge's mother, for example. In addition, everyone scores: who wins gets 2 points, while who loses gets 1. In case of a tie, the dispute is on penalties. Matches are played in 2-minute 30 minutes and there is a blue card given to expel the player priest for 5 minutes.

The 2017 World Cup brings together priests from 66 nationalities, distributed in 18 teams. To date, the best place in Brazil was in 2010, when the Brazilian College thrashed Guanelliani 6-1 in the dispute for third place. Let's pray for our priests there, guys!
