Hunters are devoured by lions while hunting rhinos

Hunting may be a legalized sport in many regions and at certain times of the year, but it is usually done illegally by hunters with little regard for the environment and ecological balance. However, a story released on Thursday (5) serves as a warning to those who solve challenges Mother Nature: at least three hunters were devoured by lions while searching for rhinos in South Africa.

Sibuya Reserve owner Nick Fox, 60, says three pairs of boots and several heavy weapons were found, but the number of hunters shot down by lions could be even higher. “They came heavily armed with hunting rifles and axes, and enough food for several days. So we suspect they were after all our rhinos here, ”Fox explained.

According to him, a helicopter was called in to rescue the hunters' remains - for that, it was necessary to give tranquilizers to the 6 lions that live in the forest so that the officers could perform the work safely. “Although we are sad about the loss of life, the hunters have come here to kill our animals. Their death sends a very clear message to other hunters that they will not always win, ”says Fox.

In the same reserve, in 2016, three rhinos died after hunters came in to steal their horns, which supposedly have aphrodisiac powers. Already throughout the Eastern Cape in southeastern South Africa, 9 rhinos have been killed since early 2018, possibly by the same gang that turned into lion food this week.
