"Caca" Pilsen ice cream: would you have a beer made with sewage water?

After the beer with sheep poop, the world can win another version of the drink prepared with the blend of the purest ... sewage!

Yes, the news comes from the United States, more precisely from the city of Portland (Oregon), where a local drinking water treatment facility is petitioning the environment to allow them to reuse sewage to make beer. But of course, water would go through a rigid purification process.

According to an article by Saffron Alexander of The Telegraph, company spokesman Mark Jockers said their special purification system makes the sewage water cleaner than any other. "The water that comes from the high purity system is the cleanest on the planet, " he said.

Mark also said that the water they treat is used for irrigation, but that the recycled wastewater market has much more to offer. But what do the drink producers say?

Art Larrance, founder of the Cascade Brewing beer brand, said using recycled water could help the brewing industry become more sustainable. "In California, craft brewers are having to transport water to factories because of the lack of it in the state. So this is a real problem, " he said.

And, by the way, the idea of beer made with sewage has everything to take off, because a public hearing in February showed support for the drinking water company's proposal.

At the time, Marcia Danab, a spokeswoman for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, admitted that the department is likely to pass a recommendation to the State Environmental Quality Commission in favor of the idea. So if all goes as expected, Portland residents (and perhaps the rest of the world) can enjoy a beer made with water from, say, a different source.
