Panda dogs are new fashion in pet shops in China

In China, having a dog can be an even cuter experience. This is because some pet shops now market the "panda dog", which are actually Chow-chow puppies that go through a "beautifying" process, getting dye and makeup to look like panda bears.

Hsin Ch'en, a pet shop owner in southwest China, says it is increasingly difficult to meet the demand for panda puppies. “Ten years ago, a Chinese citizen's natural instinct was to eat a dog. Now we are like Westerners and want a dog as a companion. Breeds such as Bulldogs and French Labradors were the favorites, but now it's the 'panda dog', ”said Ch'en.

According to the businessman, the beauty treatment applied to animals lasts about two hours. According to Ch'en, panda dogs stole a preference for French Bulldogs and Labradors. He also states that chemical treatments do not harm the animals that go through the process.
