Oklahoma City is invaded by red worms

Residents of the city of Oklahoma, in the same state of the United States, had a very unpleasant surprise while opening taps in their homes. Next to the water of the pipes, also came out little red worms.

Local authorities do not yet know what happened to earthworms invading water treatment systems, but more than 800 families have reported it. For now, the indication is that residents do not use running water to cook or brush their teeth. Showering is not yet considered dangerous.

These worms are actually fly larvae, usually used as fish bait. The animals measure just over 1 cm, but their presence in the water pipes was enough to close schools and some commercial establishments.

One of the biggest problems in dealing with these worms is that they do not die from chlorine or bleach. In fact, these animals, although super small, are very resistant and usually live in humid environments and with little oxygen. The city's water purifier, Cody Gibby, said that even if the worms were removed from the pipes and spent hours in bleach, they would not die.

So far it is not clear what can happen if you take these worms, but it seems better not to experiment, is it?
