What would relationships be like if men and women followed the Bible?

Even if you do not give too much ball to the Bible or take too much to the letter of what is written in it, you must have seen people defending (hotly) the Holy Scriptures - and even claiming that the world would be a much better place if biblical teachings were followed more faithfully.

For, according to American psychologist and writer Valerie Tarico in an article published by the Independent portal, at least as regards relationships between men and women, if the precepts described in the Bible were followed to the letter, really would be quite different - and not necessarily better, no! Take a look at some points highlighted by the expert:

1 - Polygamy would be normal

King Solomon had a thousand wives

While polygamous relationships are now considered outrageous by many, in the Old Testament they were practically the rule — not the exception. There is even a site, Biblical Polygamy, which lists the polygamists that exist in the Bible, and according to their count, they add up to 40, including figures like Moses, King David, Abraham, Jacob, and King Solomon, with two, at least 18, three, four and a thousand wives, respectively.

2 - There would be sex slaves

"The Slave Market" by Jean Leon Gerome

Amazingly, the Bible provides a series of instructions on how men can obtain sex slaves. In Exodus (21: 8), for example, the Holy Scriptures say that if a subject buys a young Hebrew woman and she does not please her master, the girl can be sold to another guy as long as he takes good care of her and is not. a foreigner. If the new "owner" does not support the girl, then she can be released.

3 - Incest would be accepted

"Lot and His Daughters" by Peter Paul Rubens

Although incest is forbidden in much of the Bible, God seems to turn a blind eye to some of his favorites — such as the half-brother couple of Abraham and Sarah. Also, in the book of Genesis (19: 31-38), the daughters of the biblical character Lot drunk their father, have sex with him, and conceive a son each, Moab and Ben-Ami, and the pair are chosen by the Lord to become patriarch of great nations.

4 - Widows would become brother-in-law's lovers

Siblings would be responsible for continuing descent

According to the Holy Scriptures, if a man dies without childbearing, the man's brother becomes obliged to impregnate the widow. In one of the reported cases - in Genesis 38: 8-10 - the young man, while possessing the deceased's wife, prefers to “pour out his semen on earth” to give the deceased a seed and is killed by the Lord. In another account, this time in the book of Matthew (22: 24-28), it is evident that custom persisted during the New Testament.

5 - Men would be encouraged to have children with other women.

Incentive to procreation

In the Old Testament, after spending 70 years wishing for a child, Sarah, Abraham's wife, encourages her husband to sleep with her slave so that the girl becomes pregnant and they can start a family through the young woman. In another account, more precisely in Genesis (30: 1-22), two generations later, the wives of Abraham's grandson Jacob send their slaves to him and begin a competition to see which man produces more children.

6) They would also easily get away with other indiscretions.

Poor little bug ...

According to the Old Testament (Leviticus 19: 20-22), men should not practice sex with slaves belonging to another guy. But if the act happens, the girl must be flogged and the man who gave in to temptation must sacrifice a ram to have his sin forgiven.

Bonus

The virgins would become spoils of war

Girls would pass into the hands of the winners

In the Old Testament, more precisely in the book of Numbers (31:18), if a war won, the Israelite servants of the Lord were to kill all women and boys, forgiving only the lives of virgin girls - who should then live to they. In another passage (Deuteronomy 21: 10-14), a ritual to which young women must be subjected before engaging in sex with their captors is described.

There would be no justice for victims of sexual violence.

And the relationship would be supersaudible

According to the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 22: 28-29), a virgin Hebrew girl who is raped can be sold to her rapist for 50 silver shekels - or the equivalent of around $ 1, 000 today - and the guy has to keep her as a woman for the sin of humiliating her.
