Check Out 5 Amazing Facts About The Vagina

If you're one of those who don't miss the hottest Mega Curious stories, you may have already seen our articles filled with unusual facts about penis, breasts and even a host of things you definitely don't know about sex. Then it's time to talk a little bit more about the female body and share some curiosities that the folks at Oddee have selected about the vagina. Check out!

# 1 - The clitoris has 8, 000 nerve endings

The clitoris is an organ reserved exclusively for female pleasure and perhaps this is the explanation for the incredible amount of sensory receptors that can be found in such a small part of the body. There are 8, 000 nerve endings in all - quite a lot, isn't it?

If we compare with men - who add up to 3, 500 nerve endings in the glans penis - we will see that women win. But if we account for the entire male organ, including the foreskin, that number increases to 24, 000 recipients. On the other hand, even with this difference, some studies have shown that, on average, female orgasm lasts longer than male.

# 2 - Sharks and vaginas have something in common

I bet you must have thought the resemblance is in your teeth, but you were wrong. In fact, the curious thing is that both sharks and vaginas have an organic compound called squalene. In nature, this substance is found in shark liver, but it can also be extracted from vegetable oils such as wheat and rice germ oil, for example.

In women, the compound serves as a lubricant and is secreted during arousal, accompanying other changes in the body, such as increased blood flow in the small and large lips and dilation of the vagina.

# 3 - Forget the intimate soap!

You may have even heard some experts comment that using intimate soaps and showers is not recommended for women. Let us be clear: We are not talking about basic hygiene on the outside of the female body, but the use of additional products and features that can alter the region's natural pH and balance.

Science has proven that the vagina is full of bacteria, but they are beneficial organisms that help keep women clean and healthy, and make sure everything works as it should. Unfortunately, women grew up believing their parts were impure, but science has proven that this is just silly.

# 4 - Women don't need to shave

While science has unraveled the details of the functioning of the penis and vagina, it is a fact that no one can explain for sure why humans have pubic hair. Some theories believe that there is a relationship between hair and pheromones, which are the odors released by the body from arousal. There are also those who say that hair contributes to lubrication between partners during sex or that has served to keep genitals warm in prehistoric periods.

Regardless of why they ended up there, it seems that lately the habit of an adult woman removing part or all of her pubic hair has become almost the norm. A recent study noted that this trend began to gain ground in the 1990s and grew further after the 2000s. But the conclusion is that waxing (or not) is a personal decision and each woman chooses how she feels most comfortable.

# 5 - Disney was the first to use the word “vagina” in a movie

Strange as it may sound, Walt Disney was one of the pioneers to talk about the female body. In 1946, Disney Studios was hired by Cello-Cotton (famous for producing the Kotex line of tampons) to create a movie called "The Story of Menstruation." Not surprisingly, the word “vagina” was used to describe the female body and this was the first time the term appeared in the history of cinema.

The film was never commercially screened, but was presented to 105 million American students. Of course, the animation had an educational aspect and brought a lot of information about the menstrual cycle. If you didn't know this avant-garde side of Disney either, play the video above (which doesn't have subtitles, but it's simple enough to understand) and check it out!
