Check out GIFs from 8 cities that will be swallowed by the oceans

That the rise in oceans caused by climate change can pose big problems for us, we all know. However, we may not have a real idea of ​​the damage and disruption that this impending catastrophe may cause. The phenomenon will not be as drastic as in the legendary Atlantis, with gigantic waves, but slow and quite time consuming.

Thinking of this uncertain future, a researcher named Nickolay Lamm created some illustrations of some of the US coastal cities, representing how they will be filled with water. The project is an effort by Lamm to draw the authorities' attention to the risks of this impending disaster.

Lamm used data provided by Climate Central - one of the most faithful weather units in the United States. The intent of the illustrations is also to alert and raise awareness of the misfortunes that climate change can bring, making them more involved in environmental mobilization.

The conjecture of this apocalyptic future is a warning; a sign of what may come true. To create something more dynamic, the illustrations were compiled by Mashable, resulting in small GIF animations. See 8 of them here:
