Meet the 2014 National Geographic Contest Champion Photos

Some images of the storms on the United States are so impressive that they deserve equally incredible records. And it was one of those photographic records that won first place in the National Geographic and Magazine Traveler Photography Contest 2014.

This amazing click you see in the featured image above is the champion and was made by Marko Korošec in eastern Colorado on May 28, 2013. Check out what the photographer said about the status of the captured image below:

While on the Tornado Alley storming expedition, I encountered many photogenic “supercell” storms. This photograph was taken as we were approaching a thunderstorm near Julesburg, Colorado, on May 28, 2013.

Dan Westergren, director of photography at National Geographic, who helped judge this year's contest, said of the image: "The stunning UFO shape gives the impression that it will suck the landscape like a tablecloth into a vacuum cleaner. The tension in the image makes me want to look at it more and more. ”

Among the other images that took the first places are that of a beautiful horse, a lovely dive, a rest in the desert, the grandeur of a redwood and many other amazing photographs. Check it out below:

2nd place - Mea Shearim

“Mea Shearim is the ultra-orthodox neighborhood of Jerusalem. The newlyweds Aaron and Rivkeh will be together and alone for the first time after their wedding ceremony. Your marriage was arranged by the families. The 18-year-olds had only met once to confirm their choice. Since then, they have been prohibited from knowing each other better or even talking. ”

3rd place - Dive into the enchanted kingdom

“The Green Lake (Grüner See) is located in Tragöss, Austria. Spring thaw raises the lake level by about 10 meters. This phenomenon, which lasts only a few weeks, covers the trails, fields and trees. The result is magical to observe the landscapes during a dive ” .

Merit Award - End of the World

Photo of Sean “hacker teper” who described:

“This picture, taken at the 'end of the world' in Banos, Ecuador, captures a man on the swing overlooking an erupting hill: the Tungurahua. The eruption occurred on February 1, 2014. Minutes after the photo was taken, we had to evacuate the area because of an approaching ash cloud. ”

Merit Award - A deserved rest in the Sahara

Photo by Evan Cole, who described:

“This photo depicts Moussa Macher, our Touareg guide, and was taken on top of Tin-Merzouga, the largest dune in the Tadrat region of the Sahara Desert, southern Algeria. Moussa rested as he waited for us to finish our 45-minute climb to the top. It only took 10 minutes to roll, run and jump to return down. The site is part of the World Heritage Tassili National Park, famous for its red sand. ”

Merit Award - Divine Transformation

Captured during the Mayana Soora Thiruvizha festival, which takes place every March in the small village of Kaveripattinam, a day after Maha Shivarathiri (the great night of Shiva). The festival is dedicated to Angalamman, a fierce guardian deity widely worshiped in southern India. ”

Merit Award - Checkers Waiting

“While exploring Burough Market in London, I was delighted to see four beautiful young women wearing old white dresses eating ice cream while the local merchant watched. Were they brides? Or bridesmaids. I don't know, but they were obviously enjoying a very special day. ”

Merit Award - Small Cloudy City

“This photo was captured at noon on December 25, 2013 from a castle that is located at the end of the small town. This is the perfect vantage point for the fog panorama over the historic town. ”

Merit Award - The Peace of “Khotso” at Devil's Knuckles

“Upon arriving at the lodge in Jonathan, our horses were celebrating the release of their heavy burdens. With Devil's Knuckles in the background and the afternoon shining how could I not take advantage of these magnificent creatures, rejoicing in the sunshine? This was the end of the first of three days of horse riding in Sehlabathebe Lesothos National Park. ”
