Meet these sensational oil paintings that look like photographs

It seems that the more impressed you are with the human ability to produce unbelievable things, the more people find ways to surprise us. This is what happens when we look at the artwork made by Gregory Thielker for his collection “Under the unminding sky”.

As simple as normal photos may seem, all the scenes depicted are oil paintings by the artist. For him, the works reflect his interest in the way roads control and delineate the way we view landscapes. “From the runway perspective, not only do we travel from place to place, but we also see environments in varied and complex ways, ” says Thielker.

According to the artist, the water on the windshield in most paintings serves as a lens that changes the way we see our surroundings while enhancing and obscuring our vision. “Perspectives slide and compress, while shapes and colors enter each other, ” he says.

Painting and its environment

Another point highlighted by Thielker in his work is the relationship between surface and depth, flattening and illusion. “These images are born from a real experience and have a close relationship with the 'medium' of painting: its fluidity, transparency, ability to create layers, mixtures and blends, ” he concludes.
