Meet NASA Scientist Responsible for Disproving End of the World in 2012

With all these stories about Mayan calendars, the impact of Nibiru, zombie attacks and other crazy predictions, NASA ends up receiving thousands of messages from people around the world, terrified that the apocalypse is about to happen.

However, according to the folks at The Awl, there is one person responsible for - patiently - reading all these distress calls and explaining to all these people that the world will not end in December this year. This man is Dr. David Morrison, the senior scientist at the Ames Research Center Institute of Astrobiology in California.

End of the World Expert

Dr. Morrison, in fact, is an expert on asteroid impacts, ground defense if any occurs, and on space and interplanetary exploration for extraterrestrial life - that is, he is a true expert on the apocalypse -, and questions about the end of the world began to come to him when NASA's “Ask an Astrobiologist” column was launched 8 years ago.

According to the space agency, the column has already received more than 5, 000 doomsday questions - with over 400 published answers - and Dr. Morrison receives about 50 messages a day from apocalypse-minded people, answering all the questions. them as much as possible. On average, the scientist spends 1 hour a day calming the crazy people via email or exchanging information with historians and experts on Mayan culture.
