That red meat is not the healthiest food, everyone already knows. After all, just look at the rates of cardiovascular problems in people whose diet is basically barbecue and derivatives to realize this. However, do you know how harmful this type of food can be to your body?

Research by the Harvard School of Public Health has proven what many people already imagined. According to the study, regular consumption of this type of food greatly increases a person's chances of developing heart problems and even cancer.

For this, over 120, 000 people were analyzed over 28 years, and the result is impressive: if you eat daily servings of processed meat - such as sausage and bacon, for example - the mortality rate increases by 20%. Already with the red meat itself - barbecue, steak and derivatives - the rate is only 13%.

In an interview with The Guardian, one of the survey's chiefs, Professor Frank Hu, stated that the study found that excessive meat consumption can actually lead to premature death. His suggested solution is to replace food with another source of healthier protein.

Those who consider themselves carnivorous and cannot imagine their lives without a beautiful piece of picanha need not despair. While your life span is shortening with each trip to the steakhouse, you can escape future problems by avoiding excess red meat. According to the World Cancer Research Fund, it is ideal that you eat no more than five pounds of meat weekly.
