After analyzing its first rock, according to a NASA news report, Curiosity collected its first handful of Martian soil for study last Sunday, October 7th.

According to the space agency, the spacecraft should sift through the material for more information on the composition of the soil of Mars, and try to find evidence that the Red Planet has in the past - or even presented - any kind of life form on its surface.

And in addition to the soil sample, the Curiosity camera also recorded an image of a small bright object near the collection site; NASA scientists believe it is a small piece of plastic from the space probe itself.
