Diamonds found in Brazil are as old as the moon, research points

Imagine that in the bowels of the earth there is a reservoir - or more - of diamonds as old as the moon itself. Surprising, isn't it? This is what a new study by the Australian National University suggests and has had a "test" identified in Brazilian lands. In Juina, Mato Grosso, 23 super-deep diamonds were found. The researchers were able to extract helium gas from diamonds, serving as a basis for the study.

The reservoir would be hidden about 410 kilometers in the Earth's mantle, somewhere between the crust and the core, and these diamonds would be in this large rock reserve partially intact since the world is world. This would protect them from the violent geological activities of the earth.

Most diamonds form between 150 and 230 kilometers below the earth's crust, and occasionally the super-deep ones - which form between 230 and 800 kilometers below the earth's surface - are brought to the surface, but they are different from those we know.

According to study leader Suzette Timmerman, these diamonds are the most difficult and indestructible natural substance known, so they form a perfect time capsule that gives us a window into the deep earth. Questions remain about the shape of this deposit: Is it a single large reservoir or are there several smaller old reservoirs? Where exactly is the deposit? What is the complete chemical composition of this deposit? ”He asks.

To identify the diamonds found in Brazil as evidence of the existence of this deposit and as old as the moon, the analysis was not by direct observation but by geochemical traces. The researchers measured the isotopes of helium contained in these super-deep diamonds that were brought to the surface due to violent volcanic eruptions.
