According to Andrew Salomone of Creators, the dolls were developed by Han, a Chicago-based artist who draws on her own fears, morbid memories, Victorian-era funeral rituals, and famous mysterious or scary characters to create the collection.
Claims and full of meaning
The artist has a background in fashion and costume design, so the models and costumes are historically correct and the result of research she does at the beginning of each project. All puppets are handcrafted from old lace and fabrics, human hair, fragments of Han's late grandmother's jewelry, and animal bones she finds out there.
According to the designer, the project came about after she had a very traumatic experience, and puppet making has helped her deal with this issue and process the ideas of death and loss.
