Study points out that men and women have many psychological similarities

According to research by psychologists, men and women can be very different physically and have varied interests and behaviors, but what goes on in both genders is very similar.

Bobbi Carothers, a data analyst at the University of Washington Center for Science and Public Health System, and Harry Reis, a professor of psychology at the University of Rochester, analyzed data from 13 studies on gender differences in recent decades - content that It includes the monitoring of over 13, 000 volunteers, most of them college students, but also observing adolescents and mature adults.

What do you prefer?

The pair used as parameters of analysis 122 people's preferences to spend their free time. For example, would you rather play golf or write a journal? Showering or boxing? Based on participants' responses, researchers came to what they call the Five Great Psychological Traits: extroversion (sociability and enthusiasm), kindness, awareness, emotional stability, and intellect.

Unlike indicators of physical strength, which show a huge difference between men and women, the variation of these psychological characteristics did not have averages large enough to classify whether a particular group in the universe studied was male or female.

We look different but we are the same

"Many people act as if men and women are different species. The message to me is that these psychological qualities do not belong to one sex, these are human differences and any individual can have more or less than any of them, " commented Reis.

This study runs counter to the bestselling content “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”, which gave researchers the idea to create an irreverent title for scientific research: “Men and Women Are from Earth”, which was recently published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
