Wang Tianfang was born in 1987 in a rural village in eastern China. At 30, he should be worried about his children, his home, or keeping a job, but a rare and enigmatic condition stunted his development when he was just under 3 years old.

At only 80 centimeters tall, Tianfang cannot speak and cannot feed on his own. Her stature and intellect are similar to those of a 4-year-old child. Because of this, Chu Xiaoping, his 52-year-old mother, can not be unglued from him at any time, since the boy has no autonomy - he even needs diapers.

Most bizarre is that doctors could not identify the problem facing Tianfang. Chu says that because of this, several neighbors suggested that she had abandoned her son on the steps of Buddhist temples when the first signs appeared, something she was vehemently opposed.

Chu, however, has a dream: to hear Tianfang say "Mom." She knows this will not happen, but she still has a thread of hope. The burden of raising a child alone is obvious, but she assures her that she would do it all over again. For an hour or two a day, she leaves the boy in the care of a neighbor to work as a maid and raise money for their livelihood. A few years ago, she left Tianfang alone, but once he fell and injured his head.

The woman says that her biggest fear is seeing her son die. Doctors always warn that it is a miracle that the boy survived so long with such a rare and limiting condition, but Chu is hopeful that he will still live many more years!
