US Army Plans Microwave Weapon to Combat Enemy Drones

That the US Army is a sign of investment, we need not even mention, and now, as part of an unmanned aerial systems strategy, the US Air Force is being driven to develop a high-powered microwave weapon capable of shorten the electricity of a drone in flight by knocking it over. The microwave gun has a wide firing arc, which makes it possible to take out many combat drones at once.

According to Defense News, the weapon is part of a series of others designed to shoot down enemy artillery grenades, rockets, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, the famous drones. A kilowatt laser weapon will also be included.

The word microwave is no stranger to anyone, and just like in home appliances, the weapon the US Air Force plans to dispose of will "cook" the internal circuitry and thereby destroy enemy drones.

The Pentagon has been researching high-powered microwave guns for years, but the threat of swarms from enemy drones made it the right time to invest in the weapon. The military is prepared to face swarms of suicide drones carrying explosive charges or willing to make a suicide attack.

The high-powered microwave gun is capable of firing in an arc defined by the radiant antenna with a field of view of tens of degrees, allowing it to literally sweep the sky with radiation, frying everything in its path. In addition to power, the microwave weapon has other advantages, such as not being interfered with by weather conditions and relying on individual rounds of ammunition. While the electric generator is running, it will continue to “fire”.

A prototype microwave weapon capable of drowning must be operational by 2022.
