Halloween is coming! Want to have a party inspired by this typical American party? This requires well-themed decor, costumes, drinks, food and a good mood!

Halloween (or Halloween) is celebrated on October 31st mainly in the United States, Canada, England and Ireland. The date is supertraditional in those countries where, in addition to the numerous parties that adults promote, children also dress up and search for candy by beating around the neighborhood with the famous phrase “Tricks or Treats?”.

Everyone supplies the candy house to offer the “scary” ghosts, monsters and little vampires who come after the goodies.

There are some stories about the origin of Halloween. Some say the commemoration is over 2, 500 years old and arose among the Celtic people (who lived in Ireland) who believed that on the last day of summer (in V BC summer was officially over on October 31) the spirits came out of the tombs. take possession of the bodies of the living.

In order to send these ghosts away, the Celts distributed spooky objects in their homes and put out the torches and candles so as not to attract them. They also wore clothes and made dark-looking masks and went out to the villages to ward off evil spirits.

The custom spread throughout Europe, but in the Middle Ages it was condemned and those who practiced the celebrations could even be burned in the Inquisition.

Centuries later the Catholic Church declared the following days, the first and the second of November, as All Saints 'Day and All Souls' Day respectively, in order to "transfer" the worship of the dead with more religious celebrations and prayers.

But pagan tradition crossed borders, and customs from the past inspired English-speaking countries to continue the celebration. But in a fun way!

In Brazil, the party began to be celebrated some time ago with the influence of the American entertainment culture, as well as the traditions included in English courses or brought by those who lived for a while in the United States, Canada and England.

Many places in our country already have special parties with themed decoration and there are party stores that sell special items and even candy shops that create Halloween-inspired candy.

Symbols such as the lighted pumpkin come from Celtic legends that originate in Ireland from where the party began. Learn some meanings of symbologies:

  • Pumpkin: symbolizes fertility and wisdom;
  • Candles: indicate the ways to guide the spirits;
  • Spider: symbolizes the fate and thread that weave its webs, the medium, the support to move on;
  • Bat: symbolizes clairvoyance, those who see beyond form and appearance without the need for eye sight;
  • Black cat: symbol of meditation capacity and spiritual withdrawal, self-confidence, independence and harmony with the universe;
  • Orange color: tone of vitality and energy that generates force;
  • Black: Priestly color of the garments of many magicians, witches, witches and priests in general.

In 2012, October 31st falls on a Wednesday. So there's still time to prepare a little party for the week or enjoy the holiday of All Souls, leaving the celebration only for three days later. In fact, during almost the second half of October, Halloween parties are starting to pop up and may extend for a few days in November. So it doesn't matter so much about the date, but the fun you'll have.

Invitations

If you have time, prepare the party invitations. If you have craft skills, making cardboard invitations with cutouts and appliques of skulls, pumpkins and bats is super fun.

If you prefer to create on your computer, program options, graphics varieties and digital facilities can also result in incredible invitations, which you can print or email or even social networks.

Organization and decoration

If you live in an apartment and will have the party in the living room or in a condominium ballroom, you can decorate the doors and walls with plastic and paper ornaments, in the shape of pumpkins, bats, ghosts and skulls.

If you want a more sophisticated Halloween mood, scatter chandeliers around the house, black tablecloths, red accents and very low lighting. You can also replace ordinary bulbs with colored ones or black light that gives that glow effect in light colors.

If you live at home, you can make the most of the space by placing lighted pumpkins at the entrance. To make them it is necessary to remove all the pulp and let it dry for at least a whole day. Then just cut the eyes and mouth with a knife and place the candles inside. It gives the party a really cool look, being one of the most traditional Halloween decorations.

You can also make the house entrance to the door "suspicious" footprints, producing the trick with sponges and washable paint.

At the tables you can also use Halloween-themed plates and napkins that are easily found at parties at this time.

As you prepare for the party, remember that the music is super important. So get a good selection ready and don't forget to add Michael Jackson's “Thriller”! You can also leave your TV on with some horror movies on the DVD.

FOOD AND DRINKS

In the United States and other English-speaking countries, the Halloween season happens during the fall when temperatures are already cold. The typical menu of these places usually includes options prepared with pumpkin, since there is plenty left to prepare the lanterns lit with it.

They prepare pumpkin soups, pies and cupcakes. Here in Brazil the heat is beginning to show and the soup can be left out, but you can enjoy the traditional Halloween food to make some more Brazilian recipes, check out some treats in the links from the website Gostoso:

In addition to pumpkin dishes, it is easier for a party to serve guests with easy-to-eat finger food, such as snacks, snacks, and small sweets. Decorated mini-cupcakes make it even more fun (and tasty).

Ideally, you have a table for snacks, one for sweets and one with drinks, glasses and ice. If this is not possible, split the table with food on one side and drinks on the other. This facilitates traffic at party time.

In the United States, for example, there are many Halloween drinks that are prepared hot, even alcoholic, due to the cold weather there.

Here in Brazil we can dispense hot drinks and prepare colorful drinks inspired by the theme.

As the national preference is beer, you can not miss the party. Vodka can be included in beautiful and ornate drinks!

If possible, leave a friend in charge of preparing them overnight. Get inspired by the orange (pumpkin) and red (blood) colors to make the drinks.

You can create cocktails using orange juice, blackcurrant liqueur, berries and other ingredients.

To produce that dripping blood effect, you can use strawberry or raspberry syrup.

One drink that is the face of the Halloween mood is Bloody Mary, made with vodka and tomato juice. For those who wring their nose for this combination, strawberry caipirinhas or options made with red drinks make the mood more “vampire”.

It's not just about scary character fantasies that makes Halloween. A lot of people take advantage of the date to have a "second carnival" and can go around dressed in many other inspirations like superheroes.

Beyond the basics like witches, devils, Morticia, skulls and vampires, a pretty cool idea is to get inspired by vampires who are characters in movies and TV shows like Twilight, Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead and True Blood.

Whatever the fantasy, the important thing is to enjoy the date and have fun with this party that is getting stronger here in Brazil!
