Geneticists argue that we need to stop the evolution of the human species

Society is increasingly receptive to the natural lifestyle, so some view our preindustrial ancestors and their supposedly healthy culture as an ideal. But this thought, when taken to the extreme, can cause serious distortions.

In the United States, for example, there was a rise in measles cases, with 78 new infections last week. Along the same lines, a cruise ship full of Scientologists was quarantined in Saint Lucia, Caribbean, after a passenger with the disease was identified.

This is the kind of news we receive when parents stop vaccinating their children, which many have done since the 1990s for fear that vaccines would be more dangerous than the diseases themselves.

There are currently a growing number of people who fear vaccines. In addition, New Age philosophies are increasingly attracting and becoming popular, based on a fusion of metaphysical, spiritual, animistic, and parascientific teachings. People who adhere to these ideologies tend to reject science's ability to improve our lives by placing unreasonable trust in nature.

In addition, there is a very "beautiful" view of evolution, with the spread of a belief that if the natural evolutionary process had not been interfered with, the world would be working as well as possible. However, this way of thinking is wrong.

How does evolution work?

No organism is unable to reproduce a perfect copy of its DNA for the next generation - and that is where evolution is centered. When our DNA transforms, natural selection kicks in, whereby the mutations best suited for a particular species in a specific environment are selected; consequently, "less suitable" mutations are excluded. This process dictated many of the things we see today, from the shape of shark fins to the length of giraffe necks.

Our ancestors were subjected to pure natural selection. Thus, individuals with less useful mutations expected a horrible death: due to famine, predators, cannibalism, disease, drought, sudden flooding, among others. Then came what scientists call "large-scale evolution, " which has led to the cruel extinction of most individuals.

The evolutionary process continues at full speed. People are still dying of disease and starving before societies permeated by inequality; We remain at the mercy of natural selection, and in this regard, many argue that it is necessary to prevent the evolution of the human species to prevent mass deaths from continuing.

Thus, encouraging scientific discovery would be the only means to achieve this goal. In support of this, it is argued that transgenic foods are necessary to prevent world hunger and that food additives are critical in preventing foods from spoiling until consumed. And the highlight: vaccines are indispensable for disease prevention. From this perspective, such actions would prevent the effects of ruthless and rampant evolution.
