Man is saved from arrow using smartphone as shield

Over the years, smartphones are gaining more and more features and now replace watches, GPS, alarm clocks, calendars, audio and video players. Now an Australian is reinforcing the use of smartphones: as shields.

On the morning of March 13, in Nimbin, Australia, a 43-year-old man was parking his car in the garage when he spotted an individual holding a bow right in front of his house. Finding the activity a bit suspicious, he decided to take a picture. The archer then pitched his bow and fired at the owner of the house, hitting the cell phone that was aimed at him.

The arrow stopped after puncturing the smartphone and still completely tore off the film that protects the screen. On impact, the device was thrown in the face of the victim, who suffered a small bruise on the chin. If the phone had been in any front pocket of his shirt, the wound could have been worse, as the entire arrowhead could pierce the object.

The perpetrator, a 39-year-old man, was arrested on charges of attempted bodily injury. As he paid bail, he was released and will wait for his trial, which will be in April. Poor cell phone, though he was the hero of the story, won't even have the replacement covered by the warranty.
