Man discovers headaches were pieces of wood in his brain

A Chinese man sought care at a hospital in Yunnan province with one swollen eyelid and complaining of a severe headache. After exams, the surprising result: There were several pieces of shape attached to his brain.

According to the doctors, the 41-year-old man said he realized something was not right 2 months ago, when his eyelid began to swell and the headaches, which he once considered occasional, started to get worse. After a CT scan, it was identified that there were 11 cm long pieces of wood stuck in his brain.

What is striking is that during the investigation to find out how the pieces got into his head, the man remembered an accident 5 years ago while he was working in the woods. He tripped and landed on a tree branch that pierced his right eyelid and entered the eye socket. At the time, he himself removed the branch and stopped the bleeding. Since she had no immediate vision problems and had no money, she did not go to the hospital at the time and let the wound heal on her own. At least that was what he believed.

According to the patient, over the years, he occasionally experienced severe headaches, but did not think the seizures were associated with the accident. Luckily, none of the wood splinters hit blood vessels or important nerves.

Even with the medical report and the need for emergency surgery, the man and his wife were reluctant to perform the procedure for fear of being unable to afford it. The procedure was performed only after doctors assured them that they would try everything in their power not to cause permanent harm, and devised an affordable treatment plan.

The operation was a success, and doctors extracted several pieces of wood, some of which were just 5 millimeters from vital points.
