Japan launches campaign to prevent cat accidents during winter

As temperatures rise steadily around here, the thermometer is already starting to drop across the Northern Hemisphere. And just like us, animals also want to keep warm during the winter. This sometimes causes them to get into car engines for heat.

To warn people of the importance of checking that no animals are hidden in the vehicle, a non-profit organization in Kochi Prefecture, southern Japan, has launched a campaign that has been named “Kon Kon”, an expression equivalent to our own. Toc Toc.

The purpose of the action is to remind people that one has to hit the car bodywork to check that no felines have gotten between the parts of the vehicle. Of course, this check must be done before starting the engine. In addition to ensuring the life of the pet, the attentive driver reduces the chances of having your car damaged.

The campaign message is circulating all over Japan and has been tweeted more than 16, 000 times, 14, 000 of them on the Japanese Automobile Federation's Twitter alone. The action happens on the other side of the planet, but the idea is true for the whole world: before starting the engine, be sure to check your car during winter to prevent accidents and ensure the life of a cold kitten.
