According to a report published by SPACE.com, a Japanese group has sent to the International Space Station, in addition to a charge for ISS periodic supply, small satellites that, when launched, will send Morse code messages from the sky.

One of the goals of the project is to allow researchers to test high-speed optical and satellite communication techniques, and small devices, called cubsats, should shine like stars through the high-intensity LED lamps that will produce the flashes.

Researchers hope that such emissions will be visible here on Earth with the use of simple binoculars, proving the feasibility of optical communication through these devices. Either way, a telescope, equipped with an antenna and a photomultiplier, is aligned to receive the main signals sent, ensuring that they are correctly recorded.
