16-year-old dies electrocuted by his headphones

A 16-year-old boy was found dead at his home in Rembau, Malaysia. The cause of your death? A very strong electric shock that would have been caused by the use of headphones connected to your phone while the phone was plugged into a charger. Mohd Aidi Azzhar Zahrin found his life already dead: his boy had blood coming out of his ear and one of his headphones was melted from the electric charge. Police did not reveal the brand of the cell phone involved in the accident.

We know for sure that the charger itself failed and that it created an arc between the 240 volt input and the 5 volt output.

It was not until the following days that the coroners attested to Mohd's death by electrocution, since the boy had no external injuries. The deceased's brother claimed that he had already shocked Mohd's charger, indicating that the cable might indeed be malfunctioning. This is not the first time reports of people electrocuted by their headphones have been released. One of the cases even happened in Brazil, more precisely in the city of Riacho Frio, Piauí, where the girl Luiza Pinheiro was also found dead by her family and, worse, her headphones had melted and fused to the girl's body. The case was quite similar: Luiza was listening to music on her cell phone while charging, plugged in.

Other similar cases have also happened in India and Australia, and in all of them there is the same factor - the smartphone being charged while the user listens to something in the headphones. “We know for sure that the charger itself failed and that it created an arc between the 240-volt inlet and the 5-volt outlet, ” said Lynelle Collins of NSW Fair Trading, a division focused on creating a fair market, safe and equitable in the New South Wales region of Australia. "We know the charger has failed."

So here is the tip for everyone: Avoid wearing headphones connected to a charging phone - the chance of you getting shocked and injured and even dying is quite considerable. Wait for your device to charge first to hear your music safely.
