Pet Mantis Sucks on Instagram
Living with a pet is among the most fun things in life. They demand a lot of responsibility and care, after all, we are dealing with living beings and they have their particular feelings, but time and dedication are compensated by gestures of affection, affection and a lot of fun. And while dogs and cats are still the favorites of the majority, there is an almost infinite variety of animals that are treated virtually as family members: horses, mice, turtles, tarantulas and even snakes. Samantha Steatoda went further and, say, innovated on the little animal. She lives with a mantis.
The mantis is known for its beauty and the power it has to break any other insect as if it were a mere dry branch. But for Samantha, he is a mate. Mavis, Samantha's mantis, is not only special because it is pet friendly, but also because it is a hit on the Internet.
Of the Mantis genus, the largest of this type of insect, the mantis is a giant and has a rather peculiar routine. He spends most of the day experimenting - and posing for photos on - miniature furniture.
Samantha told Bored Panda that she had arachnophobia and, in order to share experiences and overcome fears, joined a Facebook community. “I started learning about spiders and other creatures from entomologists and arachnologists who were in this group. I overcame my arachnophobia and became interested in wildlife in general, ”he said.
From person with phobia to spiders she became a “caretaker” of them and also adopted the praying mantis. She explained that she loves the jumping spiders and, like them, the mantis “plays” with laser. "This is very cute, " he added.
The success of praying mantis
Mavis is almost an Instagram celebrity and it all started with a joke. Samantha said she saw a small purple chair and thought it was the size of Mavis and that's when it all started.
After trying the chair, the mantis has tried and posed on sofas, sophisticated armchairs, tables, other chairs, fireplaces, refrigerators, benches, sun loungers and many others. The most recent purchase was a bathtub.
The praying mantis is a small insect and this of course causes a lot of curiosity about how to keep it. Samantha said Mavis has a decorative cage personally assembled by her with plastic at the bottom and screen at the top. “Furniture is photo props. I wish he could live this fantasy. I hope someday to find a dollhouse that is easy to make into a room for him, ”he said.
She also said that caring for Mavis is "easy and simple." The mantis is fed with cockroaches and the cage is cleaned daily.
If you are also curious about what else he will experience, you can follow the life - which is short, the mantis has a life expectancy of six to 18 months - from Mavis on Instagram, which is even a success. .
