1. Arne Cheyenne Johnson

Known as the "Assassin Demon Trial", Arne Cheyenne's crime is the first known case in the United States in which the defense tried to prove that the defendant was not guilty because he had been possessed.

Arne Cheyenne Johnson, 19, struck 40-year-old Alan Bond more than 20 times with a switchblade on February 16, 1981. Brookline's small community, Connecticut, was shocked by the murder, but that was nothing compared to that. their surprise to find that the lawyers intended to defend Arne by claiming demonic possession.

Arne moved to his girlfriend Debbie Glatzel's house in May 1980, a month before his brother David began complaining that he was being tormented by a demon. The family sought help from the Catholic Church and called the famous couple of demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who inspired the movie “Amityville Horror”.

The couple performed four exorcism rites to drive out the 42 demons that would be contained in David's body. During the ritual, Arne would have challenged the demons to possess his body in place of his brother. Shortly thereafter, the young man, who never had a criminal record, killed a man.

Martin Minnella, Arne's defense attorney, tried to use this explanation in defense of the young man, but Judge Robert Callahan declined it, stating that such justifications could not be scientifically or objectively substantiated by evidence.

The jury found Arne guilty of first-degree murder with a 20-year prison sentence.

2. David Berkowitz

David Berkowitz believed that demons talked to him: they wanted blood, gunshots and deaths. During the 1970s, he terrorized New York, killing several victims. His favorite targets were young women with long dark hair.

Police knew there was a serial killer on the loose and called him a "44-caliber killer." On April 17, 1977, a young couple was shot to death. Next to the bodies, the police found a letter:

“Dear Captain Joseph Borelli, I am deeply hurt that you called me a woman hater. I'm not. But I am a monster. I am the 'Son of Sam'. I'm a little naughty.
When Dad Sam gets drunk, he gets mean. He beats his family. Sometimes he ties me to the back of the house. Other times he locks me in the garage. Sam loves to drink blood. “Go out and kill, ” says Father Sam. Behind our house some rest. Most young - raped and slaughtered - their blood dried up - just bones now. Daddy Sam keeps me locked in the attic too.
To stop me you must kill me. Attention all the police: shoot me first - shoot to kill or else get out of my way or you will die!
I am the 'monster', the 'Beelzebub', the 'Behemoth'. I love to hunt. Lurking the streets in search of fair play - tasty meat. Blood for daddy. Mr. Borelli, sir, I don't want to kill anymore. No sir, no more, but I must - honor the father.

After committing further murders, David was finally arrested and convicted. In July 1979, he was attacked and nearly died in the Attica Correctional Facility isolation block. He claimed it was revenge for talking about the satanic cult in which he claimed to have participated - The Sons of Sam.

She did not tolerate any religious object and proceeded to talk about obscene subjects and describe sexual acts. In 1912, the girl went through an exorcism, which, according to the Church, was successful.

However, in 1928, she again turned to the religious institution. Anna was taken to a convent where a new exorcism took place. While in the care of the nuns, the girl showed violent behavior, throwing any food she received and uttering offenses. Witnesses stated that they heard her speak in different languages and until she would have levitated.

After 23 days and three complete exorcism rituals, the clerics claimed to have freed her from the demons.
