Eventually, you might agree with the maxim: "taste is not argued." In this sense, the decoration of the Christmas trees is made according to the preferences of each family, and nothing about beauty or ugliness can be stated. However, some mathematicians at the University of Sheffield (England) believe I like it if you argue yes.

To prove this theory, the group of intellectuals devised a formula to decorate a Christmas tree with numerical perfection. More precisely, the system of equations describes which combination of ornaments should be used with which amount of lights and other hangers in order to form the pine tree with the greatest aesthetic perfection possible.

To make life easier for those who aren't a fan of square roots or beads using huge decimal constants, mathematicians have made an automatic calculator available on the University's official website. Thus, according to the formula for a conventional pine tree, the ideal number of ornaments is 37 - between lights, balls and the star of the summit.
