Mexicans are buying fake cell phones to compose "bandit kit"

It is not today that many Brazilians circulate around the cities with a handy "bandit kit" - the one consisting of a fake wallet, containing some change, old cards and some junk, a purse and old cell phone. But do not think that this type of measure is unique to our country. In Mexico, people are also carrying items to be delivered to criminals in case of a robbery, the difference being that there, instead of old devices, Mexicans are buying new-looking, completely fake smartphones.

Dodging the thug

According to the folks at the Oddity Central site, as in major Brazilian cities, armed robberies have become commonplace in Mexico City, so as not to risk losing your phone - and potentially your own life - and With nothing to give the bad guys in a tight spot, Mexicans have begun calling for the purchase of perfect replicas of models like the Samsung Galaxy and iPhone X.

Fakes actually began to be developed long ago to be used as showcases in mobile phone stores. Thus, besides being identical to the originals, they even have the same weight as the real devices. But this market has found a new niche and the pieces are sold for values ranging between 300 and 500 pesos - or the equivalent between $ 60 and $ 100 or so.

Of course, handing over a fake cell phone has its risks too, as criminals may realize that this is a scam, which can complicate the situation. But, as robberies often happen extremely quickly, victims expect the thieves not to realize they are being deceived and the real device preserved. Still, many Mexicans are simply avoiding investing in the latest models and preferring cheaper and simpler - but really - options to include in the kit.
