Millionaire and Beggar: The Curious Story of a Chinese Grandma

Last week we told the story of US millionaire Lisa Fiekowski, who is “over 60” and picks up street cans in her neighborhood to resell. She does this to exercise and to pass the time. But she's not the only millionaire in the world who does anything unusual to increase her fortune: a 79-year-old Chinese lady often begs at a train station in Hangzhou.

That's right! The woman owns a five-storey house, several retail outlets, and some rented real estate, but usually goes to the station to beg some change from passersby. Last week, it made news after the railway station warned loudspeakers telling the crowd not to fall into Grandma's "poor thing" tale.

At first, the woman frequented the place to sell maps to tourists. However, the rail administration banned the activity, so she had to look for another way to get some pennies. It was then that she started asking! As old beggars more pity the hearts (and pockets) of the crowd, the lady came home with a good amount of money - the equivalent of over $ 150 a day!

Her son says, "It's okay that she didn't care about her reputation, but at least respected that of her family." Many criticized his son, saying that boredom and loneliness caused his mother to do so. Others, however, complained about the lady, who was deceiving others to increase their fortune. It's easy?
