Have you ever “rescued” any food you dropped on the floor and, after checking that it was not dirty, ate without anyone seeing? According to the Daily Mail, a group of scientists at Manchester Metropolitan University have decided to check whether what really does not kill fattening, doing a study based on the popular belief that if food is gathered from the ground quickly, it probably will not have time. suffer contamination.

During the study, five types of common foods were selected - bread with jam, pasta, ham, crackers and dried fruits - which were analyzed after intervals of 3, 5 and 10 seconds of falling to the ground. In addition, each item was chosen due to the different water content, essential substance for the proliferation of bacteria.

Results

According to the researchers, foods with high salt and sugar, such as most processed foods, are the least likely to suffer proliferation of microorganisms in short time exposure.

Thus, ham (high salt) and bread with jam (high sugar) presented an inhospitable environment for the proliferation of bacteria. Biscuits, due to their low water content and poor natural adhesion, also proved to be a non-hazardous food.

On the other hand, dried fruits and pasta showed the presence of Klebsiella bacteria, the organism responsible for a series of infections and diseases, after only three seconds of exposure.
