On Monday, Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York, announced that the city will be home to the largest ferris wheel in the world. The toy will be 190.5 meters high - far surpassing the current record holder, which is the Singapore Flyer (165 meters).

The ferris wheel will be built on Staten Island, which is a coastal area of New York, which also provides a great view of New Jersey's neighborhoods. According to the mayor, the intention of the project is to provide a totally different experience from what New Yorkers are used to, mainly because of the landscape seen.

In addition, the region will also be “presented” with a 470, 000-square-foot shopping complex, which will house 100 designer shops, restaurants, art shows and even a 200-room hotel. However, the toy and other buildings will be ready only in 2015.
