Muffins Day

Despite being slightly overshadowed by the current cupcake fever that has invaded Brazil, the muffin also has a lot of value in the list of tasty delicacies. Versatile, this English muffin can have endless variations made with fruits, jam, cereals and, of course, chocolate.

The biggest difference between your "cousin" cupcake is that it doesn't carry large decorations made with butter cream or other very elaborate toppings. However, your dough can be mixed with various ingredients and go from the oven straight to the very warm table.

To celebrate this delight was created Muffin Day which is celebrated on December 18th. How about being part of this little party making a recipe of this cupcake? In addition to being easy to prepare, the muffin appeals to everyone, and its versatility of flavors is so extensive that there are even salty versions of the food.

But first of all, how about knowing a little more about the history of this cupcake that has conquered palates worldwide?

The original English muffin has this flat shape and is usually consumed with butter and jam.

The name muffin derives from the French word "moufflet" that was used to describe a soft bread. And, it actually emerged as a loaf in the UK between the 10th and 11th centuries, not as the cupcake that is currently known.

The two main types of muffins are English and American. They vary in style as well as taste and history. The original English muffins were flat-leavened dough, baked on a hot plate and eaten with tea and jam. In the English countries there is still this kind of food.

Around the 19th century, muffin vendors walked the streets of England at traditional tea time to sell their muffins. They wore a tray full of muffins and rang bells to attract their customers.

American-style muffins were on the menu around the late 18th century, and by the 19th century cookie recipes were already appearing in cookbooks. This type is made with a faster dough and baked in individual molds. And it was this kind of cookie that became best known and spread all over the world.

The American population is such a fan of the muffin that several states have adopted a cookie type to be the official of the place, for example, in Minnesota is the blueberry muffin, in Massachusetts is the corn and in New York state is the apple .

Fast and warm muffin

Muffin preparation is quick and easy. Usually the base dough of the cookie is made with milk, flour, eggs, baking powder and sugar, and some ingredients may vary if you want to make it lighter with the inclusion of natural yogurt or brown sugar, for example.

The dough can be beaten by hand, without the use of a mixer or blender, because just mix all the ingredients and add the flavors you want: fruits, jam, nuts, oats, chocolate drops and other options.

To bake is necessary a special shape with the cavities that give the shape of the cookie, can be aluminum or silicone. To make it even prettier at the time of serving, you can put paper cups in the cavities and dump the batter.

There is a huge variety of flavors of this versatile cookie that can be part of a weekend brunch or a delicious afternoon coffee. Want some ideas for you to do at home? Check out some recipes from TudoGostoso that TodaEla has selected for you:
