Needing help making decisions? Check out this simple tip!

Take the entrance exam and start studying something or go straight to a professional career? Invest in a new car or use the money to take a course abroad? Get married or buy a bicycle? Who has never felt insecure and not knowing what to do when making a decision to throw the first stone! The fact is that everyone goes through moments of hesitation, including the most determined and confident people - but for those in trouble, there is a very simple trick that can help.

According to Pilar Jericó of El País, this is a technique called “10-10-10”, proposed by Suzy Welch, former editor of Harvard Business Review. According to Pilar, this method can be helpful when assessing the consequences of a short, medium and long-term decision and arose from Suzy's need to reconcile her busy and successful working life with her personal life.

10-10-10

Basically, the technique is to analyze what will be the impact of a given decision within the next 10 minutes, 10 months and 10 years. So let's take the hypothetical question that we asked at the beginning of the article about "investing in a new car or using the money to take a course abroad".

If you buy a new car, how do you think you will feel in the next 10 minutes? Probably very well! But what about the next 10 months? And after 10 years? And if, instead of investing in a car, you use the money to trade: what do you think will be the impact of this decision in the short, medium and long term?

Interestingly, according to Pilar, on second thought, if we stop to look at all the issues we have in our lives from a new perspective, we often realize that we tend to overdo things a bit and that decisions are not They are as difficult as they seem.

In fact, of all the resources we have at our disposal, time is possibly the scarcest - and one that we cannot recover from being lost. So instead of wasting it by burning your eyelashes or postponing decisions, try applying the “10-10-10” technique and increase your chances of avoiding regrets in the future.
